"The Maine Studio" opening (images) August 25th 2009

The Maine Studio opeing took place today, August 25th 2009, it is a very big deal for film in the state of Maine. The opportunity to have a dedicated space in the Portland area to have a sound stage and  services related to film, a growing industry in the state, is certainly newsworthy & welcome news like the Goovernor said he'd not seen so many legislators gathered out in public away from Augusta, so  you know it's a big deal! Props to Frank Nappi, especially, for his interest & walking the walk about supporting creative arts community in Portland, Maine!

Storm Approaching Portland Maine July 4th, 2009

Tweaked a bit in LR as I am experimenting with it

Original straight out of cam below below

The Storm though it looked so ominous actually receded and never hit Portland. I was riding around Back Cove with a friend and "had to stop & catch the spectacle!"

Of Art and Intention ~ dilly dilly (music)

Doo Write by Dilly Dilly
(download)

The Album is called 'of art and intention' the artist dilly dilly .  Recorded  here in Southern Maine. The record got reviewed locally in the local weekly rag (Portland Phoenix) by PT local music writer Sam Pfeifle;

",,,With a vibe a lot like Bon Iver's (and I had that in my notes before I read her shout-out in the liner notes), the album is a construct, meshing the organic reality of any number of stringed instruments with the bleeps and bloops of manufactured beats and keyboard sounds. It is ethereal and grounded, sharp and raw and smooth and polished. Dilly does most of it herself, often playing three or four instruments, but she gets help from Jason Ingalls (Seekonk and Satellite Lot, among others) on drums recorded at Acadia, along with guest spots from Alias, Spencer Albee, Sontiago, and Fresh Kills.,,,"

see all  http://tr.im/DillyDooWrite

This album is destined for a much larger audience than just the local Portland music scene, much like the music of her "other band" Cerebus Shoal where Dilly Dilly's (Erin's) musical worldliness was and continues to be honed along with a myriad of other projects.

The album  she decided would be a free download although she wants people to donate what and if they can, actually here are her words;

dilly dilly *of art and intention* First official full-length album now available for Download!

Well, hello there again!

It official, Of Art And Intention is now available FOR FREE, online only release, with option to donate.

I've been striving and struggling in the music world for seventeen of my many years alive and I decided to take matters into my own hands. I mean... If it worked for Radiohead it could potentially work for me too! As we all know, record companies are receding and it's getting increasingly hard to make music something the musicians themselves can benefit from. With any luck, the money I make from this release online will fund a physical pressing in the future.

Thank you for your time and consideration for review and/or promotion.

Rusty Belle 'OFF & ON' video, music from Us Folk on WMPG

Actually, three quarters of them came down to the studio The one female member Kate Lorenz could not make the morning performance of this one song.
Odd how things can happen on (Live) community radio, today was an unusual mix, lots of new material to air and then the phone rings while doing the show, first guest is running late, ,,on the phone it's Jazer, a member of this quartet Rusty Belle out of the Amhearst, Mass music scene, He asks "Hi Would it be possible for you to announce our gig tonight on the air?"   Me thinks for a bit "Why not,, sure!" I Inquired "Where 'you playing at?"  Somehow I then discover they are staying with musician friends,,, even better; a past guest of the show,, so right then I just say "Well can you be here and play on the air, in like 45 minutes?" (really)
There was a moment of silence then a very positive "Okay, we'll be there as soon as we can!" and this song 'OFF & ON' is the result. Sure enough; They came down they did one track a new song not on their latest recording .   The Players are; Matt Lorenz guitar vox, Jazer Giles accordion, Zak Trojano lead slide guitar, missing from this morning's short one song set on the radio is singer Kate Lorenz

Sound board out synched to clip, camera sound deleted, posted with the permission of the artist,

Note I was looking @ past guests, came across this one replying to a comment & saw this song vid, I love the song, & how it all came together.

October 24th brought some great shows to Portland, Maine. One being yet another visit from the unstoppable duo Aztec Two Step. Rex & Neal came into the studio and did a number of tracks leaving us with with this one just prior to the "Big Election". "C'mon in my Kitchen" David Jacobs-Strain (resonator guitar) live on Us Folk

C'mon In My Kitchen (Robt Johnson) by David Jacobs - Strain
(download)

Friday November 7th 2008 the very adept guitarist David Jacobs-Strain came into the studio and played the guitar like no one I'd seen do it before ( & I've see me some guitar players) he was doing chiropractic "moves" on the resonator guitar ('looked like he was going to break it's back!) a very innovative player, the piece starts out a bit faint but sure catches up.

His rendition of the Robert Johnson classic recorded  @ WMPG studio on Us Folk. His flourishes were like I'd neverheard. I did shoot some video of it (remote camera) so soon I'll checking out that footage and  drop this sound onto it and post to vimeo & here. David has a new Album; Liar's Day he did with two veteran players Kenny Passarelli (Otis Taylor, Stephen Stills), who's also featured on the bass. They're joined by Joe Vitale on drums. David is one of those players who breathes new fire, blood & life into the blues and already @ an early age  many consider an American master.
