Rusty Belle 'OFF & ON' video, music from Us Folk on WMPG

Actually, three quarters of them came down to the studio The one female member Kate Lorenz could not make the morning performance of this one song.
Odd how things can happen on (Live) community radio, today was an unusual mix, lots of new material to air and then the phone rings while doing the show, first guest is running late, ,,on the phone it's Jazer, a member of this quartet Rusty Belle out of the Amhearst, Mass music scene, He asks "Hi Would it be possible for you to announce our gig tonight on the air?"   Me thinks for a bit "Why not,, sure!" I Inquired "Where 'you playing at?"  Somehow I then discover they are staying with musician friends,,, even better; a past guest of the show,, so right then I just say "Well can you be here and play on the air, in like 45 minutes?" (really)
There was a moment of silence then a very positive "Okay, we'll be there as soon as we can!" and this song 'OFF & ON' is the result. Sure enough; They came down they did one track a new song not on their latest recording .   The Players are; Matt Lorenz guitar vox, Jazer Giles accordion, Zak Trojano lead slide guitar, missing from this morning's short one song set on the radio is singer Kate Lorenz

Sound board out synched to clip, camera sound deleted, posted with the permission of the artist,

Note I was looking @ past guests, came across this one replying to a comment & saw this song vid, I love the song, & how it all came together.

"Livin' in America" by Aztec Two Step live on Us Folk

America by Aztec Two Step
(download)

October 24th brought some great shows to Portland, Maine. One being yet another visit from the unstoppable duo Aztec Two Step. Rex & Neal came into the studio and did a number of tracks leaving us with with this one just prior to the "Big Election". It's always great to catchup with these two veteran performers who have performed together over 3 & 1/2 decades sharing stages with a veritable who's who of folk & rock!

"Defenders of Marriage" by Roy Zimmerman - ASL Version

Dave McCloskey interprets Roy's song "Defenders of Marriage" in American Sign Language. Roy Zimmerman is off-screen to the left, performing the song at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference (which just took place this past weekend in upstate NY.
Roy invites viewers to (Please), jump on the satirical bandwagon as it rolls over homophobia and ignorance: learn "Defenders of Marriage" (you can find lyrics, chord charts and tablature at http://royzimmerman.com/ ), videotape yourself performing the song and post it as an answer video to Roy's "Defenders of Marriage" seen below:

"Some People" by the remarkable cross genre talent April Verch plays Portland, Maine 11/07/08

(download)

April Verch is a musical force to be reckoned with that is for sure! This track is from her new recording Steal The Blue  (posted w/ permission)

I was fortunate to meet her in Montreal@ the international Folk Alliance event several years ago, and at these Major  Folk Alliance events it is a literal smorgasborg of genres in an around the rather large all encompassing world of folk music and what better an artist to meet who when not on stage could be found jamming in the hall of this huge hotel performing with her band, step dancing , fiddling and singing all at once! And doing them all so incredibly well.  So it is a real honor to have her play on my community radio program (Friday November 7th, 2008), Us Folk on www.WMPG.org here in Portland, Maine  April will be joined in the studio (& the show) by Lincoln Meyers on guitar and Cody Walters on upright bass and vox.  She and the trio play One Longfellow Square the same date  (Friday Nov 7th, 2008) April & trio play on the show 9:30±a.m.
If you're listening on the web say hello via e @  djrequest@WMPG.org .
