Their first American tour of Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa, beginning in March 2009! INCLUDES PORTLAND, MAINE! During this first east coast tour, Kinobe will share the traditional sounds of Uganda and the African continent, performing exclusively on a wide variety of beautiful acoustic instruments.

TOUR SCHEDULE

Soul Beat Africa is the new voice of Ugandan music, the inspired synthesis of African roots and world music, of traditional and modern instrumentation. These musicians represent the new vanguard of Ugandan performers, gifted instrumentalists steeped in the music of their homeland, but with ears opened to the sounds of the world at large. Driving poly-rhythms underlay transcendent melodies. Traditional African instruments – koras, kalimbas, adungus, endongos, ngonis, drums – blend with guitars and keyboards, drawing on influences from around the globe. This is a new groove for a new world.

Rusty Belle 'OFF & ON' video, music from Us Folk on WMPG

Actually, three quarters of them came down to the studio The one female member Kate Lorenz could not make the morning performance of this one song.
Odd how things can happen on (Live) community radio, today was an unusual mix, lots of new material to air and then the phone rings while doing the show, first guest is running late, ,,on the phone it's Jazer, a member of this quartet Rusty Belle out of the Amhearst, Mass music scene, He asks "Hi Would it be possible for you to announce our gig tonight on the air?"   Me thinks for a bit "Why not,, sure!" I Inquired "Where 'you playing at?"  Somehow I then discover they are staying with musician friends,,, even better; a past guest of the show,, so right then I just say "Well can you be here and play on the air, in like 45 minutes?" (really)
There was a moment of silence then a very positive "Okay, we'll be there as soon as we can!" and this song 'OFF & ON' is the result. Sure enough; They came down they did one track a new song not on their latest recording .   The Players are; Matt Lorenz guitar vox, Jazer Giles accordion, Zak Trojano lead slide guitar, missing from this morning's short one song set on the radio is singer Kate Lorenz

Sound board out synched to clip, camera sound deleted, posted with the permission of the artist,

Note I was looking @ past guests, came across this one replying to a comment & saw this song vid, I love the song, & how it all came together.

Sister Rosetta’s Stone: Gospel Music Legend Memorialized after 35 Years

DECEMBER 16, 2008 PRESS RELEASE (from Bob Merz, Philadelphia):

Sister Rosetta’s Stone: Gospel Music Legend Memorialized after 35 Years

Philadelphia, PASister Rosetta Tharpe, the pioneering gospel musician and instrumentalist, finally has a gravestone marking her resting place at Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. Since her passing in 1973, the gravesite of Sister Rosetta had been a barren plot lacking any memorial. Today, a beautiful, rose-colored monument bears respect to one of America’s most influential artists of the 20th Century.

Sister Rosetta’s monument was partially funded by a benefit concert at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA on January 11, 2008, that featured performances by gospel and spiritual music legends—The Dixie Hummingbirds, Odetta, Marie Knight, Willa Ward, The Johnny Thompson Singers, and The Huff Singers. Additional financial contributions were provided by Philadelphia’s Rhythm & Blues Foundation, and the Blues Foundation in Memphis.
