"Some People" by the remarkable cross genre talent April Verch plays Portland, Maine 11/07/08

(download)

April Verch is a musical force to be reckoned with that is for sure! This track is from her new recording Steal The Blue  (posted w/ permission)

I was fortunate to meet her in Montreal@ the international Folk Alliance event several years ago, and at these Major  Folk Alliance events it is a literal smorgasborg of genres in an around the rather large all encompassing world of folk music and what better an artist to meet who when not on stage could be found jamming in the hall of this huge hotel performing with her band, step dancing , fiddling and singing all at once! And doing them all so incredibly well.  So it is a real honor to have her play on my community radio program (Friday November 7th, 2008), Us Folk on www.WMPG.org here in Portland, Maine  April will be joined in the studio (& the show) by Lincoln Meyers on guitar and Cody Walters on upright bass and vox.  She and the trio play One Longfellow Square the same date  (Friday Nov 7th, 2008) April & trio play on the show 9:30±a.m.

In honor of Veteran's Day on November 11, Elana James , vocalist and fiddler
for the Hot Club of Cowtown is releasing "Hey Beautiful." The lyrics are,
simply, a letter written by US Army Staff Sgt. Juan Campos (1979-2007) - one
of the last written to his wife from Iraq.  Elana read Campos's words in the
appeared in March 2008 as part of excerpts from e-mail messages, journals
and web postings of six soldiers who have died in Iraq since January 1,
2007.  Elana was moved by this letter in particular, and was inspired to put
his words to music. "Hey Beautiful" is the letter just as Campos wrote it
(though it has been edited slightly for length).  It is available as a free
