I love this shot it was one I took now 4 years ago, it was a windy day I was raking . The leaves were so beautiful & colorful, I decided these were too sweet to just 'bag up' there began a rapid collection of the ones that 'spoke to me' I assembled them out of the wind in my shed in our back yard. The leaves here in Portland have started to turn just a bit. Maybe we'll get some 'beauts' like these . Fall Leaf Set Here
featuring future felon Tom Delay with former felon Michael Irvin.
Steve Brooks is a masterful songwriter wordsmith from Austin Texas, Very well known for his work with Jim Hightower . I've been a fan of Steve's work for close to a decade, his songs are laced with brilliant lyrics, biting social commentary, wit, grace and always calling it like he sees it. Many in Texas wince when they see a crooked politician like Tom Delay become a "celebrated" contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" others like Steve write tunes like this one.
Way to go Steve Brooks! Are people in Austin taking bets on how fast Tom the "Hammer" will fall on De show?
The Maine Studio opeing took place today, August 25th 2009, it is a very big deal for film in the state of Maine. The opportunity to have a dedicated space in the Portland area to have a sound stage and services related to film, a growing industry in the state, is certainly newsworthy & welcome news like the Goovernor said he'd not seen so many legislators gathered out in public away from Augusta, so you know it's a big deal! Props to Frank Nappi, especially, for his interest & walking the walk about supporting creative arts community in Portland, Maine!
The Storm though it looked so ominous actually receded and never hit Portland. I was riding around Back Cove with a friend and "had to stop & catch the spectacle!"

Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa "Kuba" Their first American tour of Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa, beginning in March 2009! INCLUDES PORTLAND, MAINE! During this first east coast tour, Kinobe will share the traditional sounds of Uganda and the African continent, performing exclusively on a wide variety of beautiful acoustic instruments.
TOUR SCHEDULE
Soul Beat Africa is the new voice of Ugandan music, the inspired synthesis of African roots and world music, of traditional and modern instrumentation. These musicians represent the new vanguard of Ugandan performers, gifted instrumentalists steeped in the music of their homeland, but with ears opened to the sounds of the world at large. Driving poly-rhythms underlay transcendent melodies. Traditional African instruments – koras, kalimbas, adungus, endongos, ngonis, drums – blend with guitars and keyboards, drawing on influences from around the globe. This is a new groove for a new world.
Actually, three quarters of them came down to the studio The one female member Kate Lorenz could not make the morning performance of this one song.
Odd how things can happen on (Live) community radio, today was an unusual mix, lots of new material to air and then the phone rings while doing the show, first guest is running late, ,,on the phone it's Jazer, a member of this quartet Rusty Belle out of the Amhearst, Mass music scene, He asks "Hi Would it be possible for you to announce our gig tonight on the air?" Me thinks for a bit "Why not,, sure!" I Inquired "Where 'you playing at?" Somehow I then discover they are staying with musician friends,,, even better; a past guest of the show,, so right then I just say "Well can you be here and play on the air, in like 45 minutes?" (really)
There was a moment of silence then a very positive "Okay, we'll be there as soon as we can!" and this song 'OFF & ON' is the result. Sure enough; They came down they did one track a new song not on their latest recording . The Players are; Matt Lorenz guitar vox, Jazer Giles accordion, Zak Trojano lead slide guitar, missing from this morning's short one song set on the radio is singer Kate Lorenz

A twitter contact recently discovered Animoto and reminded me of just how cool AniMoTo is, they continue to expand their services I am a huge fan and user of the service which I found via a Vimeo contact. All the images are by yours truly with very few exceptions ( two nine panels from my Flickr favorites).
Dana Edelman performed on the show back in August of 2006 here in Portland, Maine along with his good friend and fellow musician (living in Maine) Rob Duquette, shortly after this album hit the streets, even then this track was a standout due to content timeliness and, of course; here we go again. I asked if I could post this tune specificaly since I keep hearing it in my head when i am watching the news from Gaza & Israel, he said yes please share it.
BTW the track comes from the album Mile 23 on Segue Records and can be purchased HERE
If you do not know Dana Edelman here's a more recent video piece that a music video pro, now instructor put together with his students. It's really well cut together, masterful piece of videography with great sound too, with, as you will hear, a poignant lyric.
I'm living in Maine, I am Kiki's Dad , brother to a few, friend to a few more. I work with wood metal paint & stone, draw some, shoot pictures/video & listen to a lot of Music. I host a once weekly radio program here in Portland, Maine on Community radio WMPG.
