Sister Rosetta’s Stone: Gospel Music Legend Memorialized after 35 Years

DECEMBER 16, 2008 PRESS RELEASE (from Bob Merz, Philadelphia):

Sister Rosetta’s Stone: Gospel Music Legend Memorialized after 35 Years

Philadelphia, PASister Rosetta Tharpe, the pioneering gospel musician and instrumentalist, finally has a gravestone marking her resting place at Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. Since her passing in 1973, the gravesite of Sister Rosetta had been a barren plot lacking any memorial. Today, a beautiful, rose-colored monument bears respect to one of America’s most influential artists of the 20th Century.

Sister Rosetta’s monument was partially funded by a benefit concert at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA on January 11, 2008, that featured performances by gospel and spiritual music legends—The Dixie Hummingbirds, Odetta, Marie Knight, Willa Ward, The Johnny Thompson Singers, and The Huff Singers. Additional financial contributions were provided by Philadelphia’s Rhythm & Blues Foundation, and the Blues Foundation in Memphis.

Raw Video: Iraqi Journalist Throws Shoe at Bush; a fitting gesture.

(or) IF THE SHOE FITS,,,

(Oh and really it should read shoes as in Plural & two good "HURLS" mind you!) Okay so it's my freaking opinion & it's no secret (And the opinion of a boatload of other folks) that I find "W" an inept incompetent "leader", born with a silver spoon in his mouth, priviledged & posing poorly , he ain't no cowboy, ain't no articulate anything  but embarrassing, thusly the shoe incident is a perfect fit!  He actually appears to be a child in this clip; a child who has behaved poorly, except he is the lame duck president who has really performed poorly, and this performance is on the world stage no less!  & Yes he is the POTUS & the "office" commands respect I just find it beyond difficult to find any.

Act your age George not your shoe size!

Oh yeah I forgot , you can't help yourself George. This journalist has as much respect for you as so many around the globe do. LOOK at the world today George You've done so much to enrich and enhance the lives of so few. How will you sleep at night George? Will the image of you dodging the shoes of an Iraqi Journalist (thrown at you) haunt you? Will the countless Iraqis killed in this war haunt you, or the thousands of American slaughtered or the tens of thousands of Americans maimed forever sacrificed by your (as the decider) decision to topple a leader NOT responsible for 9/11 haunt you? Why go to Iraq George?,, Maybe just to pose with & slap a soldier on the shoulder & say " I've been there to Iraq (son), it's Hell & as your commander & chief I know what you're going through"? OH WAIT; Maybe it was To single handedly capture Osama Bin Laden with you bare hands before you leave office? George? Will the economy haunt you George, Oh yes "You got yours, you'll be comfortable, no worries for you Georgie!". Maybe, just maybe it's New Orleans and your complete failure to lead a timely & effective charge, does that haunt you George? Maybe it's your failure to heed the scientists or the scholars even the with their most compelling of evidence, You thumbed your nose at science, & all that evidence & all those men. Will that  haunt you? Will your squandering all your political capitol & bankrupting future generations in an Illegal war as your legacy,  ; DUCK that!

(see this http://www.sockandawe.com/ speaking of duck)

You showed them George with this all important trip to Iraq!.. and this journalist showed you with two good throws you have more than a very sh*tty reputation to DUCK.
History will be throwing many shoes at you George so this was just practice for you as you live out your days on the globe humilated by a failed war, a failed administration, enemic intellectual stature, atrocious leadership, and even more atrocious results. Ducking shoes is the least of your worries big guy. It appears you have been practicing.

note; The reporter - Muntazer al-Zaidi from Al-Baghdadia (a television network in Cairo) - yelled, "This is the farewell kiss, you dog" then threw his shoes at the President. this same reporter went through some trials due to his being a journalist= http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L19159708.htm

"Birdie B.D." videos (what ever happened to that bird?)

(download)

The Unexpected guest who dropped in for a visit.
"Birdie" (as Kiki named him) was around for almost three days he was injured we tried to help him recover and things were looking good.  He was taking in water & crumbs mixed with water but he was a hurtin' unit & never was able to perch as his left side, though nothing visible , was in distress, we kept him warm near the stove setting up a cozy spot to be resting undisturbed.

(download)

The Night before he left his body with us he actually was playful, weak, but playful, I actually thought this little creature was going to pull through. The Morning of the third day he was very still it looked as if he'd shriveled into half the size he was here in the video.

Kiki & I hatcheted up the frozen ground and dug a grave for "Birdie", making it a ritual for the bird and us. Very sad but it was his time,  Kiki. We did at least share some time with Birdie before his spirit flew off.

An injured bird landed in my path, I tried to help him recover he actually appeared to get stronger and took small bits of water & food. Became playful last night as I checked on him all was well . I checked this morning after a few days of hanging out he was still, & very deceased. Cool little bird.

A Wal-Mart employee in Long Island, New York died after being trampled to death by a mob of shoppers on Friday, the traditional first day of the holiday shopping season. The 34-year-old worker Jdimytai Damour was killed after a crowd of 2,000 broke down store doors and ran over him shortly before the store"s schedule 5 a.m. opening. Four shoppers were injured in the stampede. Nassau County police were trying to determine what happened during the stampede, but said it was unclear if there would be any criminal charges [includes rush transcript].

What a horrible way to go and yet if you listen to this story you have to wonder how Wal-Mart gets away with this especially knowing that the doors of said Valley Stream Wal-Mart came off their tracks last year as well. I hope the family files suit and OSHA fines the @#$%^&* out of Wal-mart.
