Shoebox Dusk 6th March

The light was beautiful this evening before the sun set, I went to the back fence and shot this "through the Shoebox"
( See the "ShoeBox" Channel on Vimeo)
The music is from the lovely and brilliantly talent singer songwriter Julie Lee singing live in the studio a portion of her tune "Sojourner Truth" off her "Still House Road" A tune she says came to her when she saw an exhibition and there amongst the art and Photographs was a large photo of Sojourner Truth looking straight into the camera and Julie said; ",, it was like she was peering into my soul I had to write about her!".

Donal Hinely "GIANTS"

Donal Hinely speaks for the many with the title track of "Giants" which came out several years ago now, but still cuts to the chase.

Giants by Donal Hinely
(download)

Where are they ?

I asked as well how could a putz like "W" ever become president, the moronic son of a mediocre President. It all seemed so fishy that "43" was ushered in under such awkward and bogus terms ( & as if  "41" was enough wasn't it?) yet he plays the part as if he were little king George and they the Bushes were some kind of royalty who loved posing as a "Peoples regular guy kind of guys". The history books will morph the actuality into fables and lies, much like the WMD being

morphed into marketing a war.

There are some songwriters who sing about the state of the nation really well, the sentiment is not lost on me and many others. Check out "The Ballad of the Three Georges"
Donal Hinely is a brilliant songwriter and performer, I have always admired his work. I recently heard from him about his releasing a new album "Blue State Boy" on Atom Records.
And since he had my attention & I had his I asked if it would be cool to post this track of his on this Posterous blog 'a mine & Donal said yes just point to his sites.

Donal also plays the Glass harmonica and has for years his album Glass Stories features "Glass playing".

His Song Gasoline is an anthem to that special sauce
we tank up on which is over on Donal Hinely on My Space

portion of the lyrics to Gasoline by Donal Hinely

,,There was a note by the coffee machine
,,,she took the keys to the car
some cash from the jar
it was said that she got a away clean,
Cause A drunk has got to have his whiskey,
& A smoker needs that nicotine,
All A dreamer really needs is a Buick
and some money for gasoline
gasoline
gasoline
Hey what do we have to lose
gasoline
gasoline
C'mon drive away these blues
gasoline
gasoline,
C'mon drive away these blues
C'mon drive away these blues

Thanks Donal!

Carl Dimow "Klezmerish jam on bass flute"

Carl Dimow playing the bass flute in mid December of 2007 on Us Folk. Often found playing flute with the well seasoned klezmer and world music quintet The Casco Bay Tummlers
Carl is a versatile and talented multi-instrumentalist teacher/performer/producer (he produced the Tummlers lastest album "Journey" which is world class world music the strength of which is it's breathe of repertoire and the mastery of all the players.)
For several years we had planned on Carl one day coming in and playing on the show this was the day, finally, a most enjoyable show.

Carl also plays in a duo collaborating with classical guitarist Nathan Kolosko see; HERE

Mundo Caliente

Creative Catalyst Bob Barancik is certainly a creative force. Mundo Caliente is a multi media piece, a collaboration with the animation artist David Puls and others.

I was intrigued by the visual composition, the mixture of brilliant color, the flow of the music and the underlying message/content of the piece. It is riveting on several levels and I wanted to make sure others had the opportunity to see it. Bob is working on an event here in the Portland, Maine on Peaks Isle. Info @ Creative Share

"Deliver Me" Christopher Teret singer songwriter

A track from Christopher Teret (his earlier one; HERE ) a guest on the show recently. This track was on his recording that I previewed and had asked him to do live. He prefaced the song by saying that he found a lot of people had responded to it and that those close to him had said " Hey man did you write that about me?" like some of his close pals, his brother, & I could see why, the lyrics again grab me as well, I see what they mean. He's one of my top picks locally as songwriters go.

The underlying melody fingerpicked on that sweet (free) parlor guitar makes it a great song.
I really appreciate his ease & execution of the tune, he says he has many many tunes to share.more next time  www.myspace.com/christopherteret
The Sound is the on air sound board out synched to the clip with the camera sound deleted, posted with the permission of the artist.
So this was months ago, so why post this besides it being a cool song?

Sun Setting on FISA the Vote is today! July 8th 2008 (One day reprieve to July 9th!)

Image is sunset on flag @ Back bay Portland, Maine 07/07/08 ctd3

Sadly this bill passed the story here from EFF= http://www.eff.org/press/archives/2008/07/09

It's hard to imagine that anyone in their right mind would want this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Intelligence_Surveillance_Act
to pass TODAY July 8th 2008 (see below). Harder still  to realize that the network media giants have made virtually little stink or attention about this flawed bill.
Late last night I watched this video posted by Tim Ferriss on his site ;
http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2008/07/07/what-every-american-needs-to-know-and-do-about-fisa-before-tuesday/

If you can take the time to listen to Daniel Ellsberg spell it out then quite possible you will watch with baited breath as to the outcome
TODAY of this historic vote here in the US. Has the Sunset on real personal freedoms here in America,

Land of the Free?

"Water in the Desert" Julie Lee Live on Us Folk

This track is from a visit a while back from The amazing
Julie Lee, now out of Nashville, she's got one of these great
stories about how A dog walker friend of Alison Krause
Mentioned that Alison may very well be interested to
hear her sing. Alison came to hear her which struck up
a rapport that she sang on her recording "Stillhouse Road".
